Laurel's hands were full as she hurried down the staircase within the court house, one gripping the handle of her briefcase while the other was wrapped around a stack of folders, pressed tightly against her chest. Court had just been let out and Laurel was still smiling about the win, it hadn't been an easy one, but it was well deserved. Her client had been swindled out of thousands of dollars by a young conman. The elderly woman had been guilty of nothing but trusting humanity too much, and when she stepped into CNRI and told her story, Laurel had to help. These weren't the cases that got Laurel's name printed across the front page in some high-profile murder case, but Laurel didn't care. She affected lives and that was what mattered.
Passing by the metal detectors, Laurel gave her goodbyes to the guards for the day before stepping out the doors and into the sunlight. Ready to rush down the stone steps and head to the parking garage that housed her car, Laurel suddenly stopped as she heard her being called for. "Counselor, I just wanted to congratulate you on your win today. I wasn't expecting you to come up with case precedent from 15 years ago. Good job."
"Thank you. Hopefully for you, next time we meet you won't underestimate CNRI." Smiling to the other attorney, Laurel turned on her heel to continue her trip to her vehicle when she nearly turned into someone. Quickly, Laurel took a step back and steadied herself, using her chin to help hold onto the folders.
