Overview: Harleen Quinzel is a very driven young woman. All she cares about is becoming a licensed psychiatrist so that she can study criminals and understand them better. She will stop at almost nothing in order to achieve this and is willing to delve into the morally grey zone. If it hadn’t been for her high intelligence, she would have certainly cheated throughout college and medical school. Fortunately, she has always been fast at picking things up. Still, she had no problem flirting with her professors in order to make sure that her grades were the best they possibly could be. The better the grades, the more wanted she would be when she graduated. Her intentions to learn more about the criminal mind may seem admirable, but her goals are entirely selfish. It’s all about the money and celebrity status that would accompany her findings.
She can be rather manipulative when she wants to be, especially when it comes to men. If she wants something, there’s a good chance that she’ll be able to persuade someone to get it for her. Still, she does feel a sense of guilt afterwards. She isn’t a heartless monster, far from it. All she is is an extremely driven and ambitious girl.
Harleen also loves to have fun. She can’t stand the feeling of boredom. If she starts to get that old familiar feeling, she’ll quickly do something to get rid of the horrible feeling, usually by going out and finding something to interest her. Shopping trips always help as well as visiting whatever the most popular club in town is. She wants to be noticed. She wants the attention.

History
Harleen was born to a poor family in Brooklyn, New York. Her father, Nick, was a small time con man who provided all the “income” while her mother, Sharon, stayed at home. Her mother was incredibly strict to her children, both Harleen and her brother, Barry, knew not to mess with their parents and to do what they were told. However, as the years went on, Barry would slowly grow to do nothing his parents told him.
From a young age, Harleen demonstrated prodigious levels of gymnastic ability. At the age of five, she was able to perform moves that people three times her age couldn’t even accomplish. While their parents spent very little of money that they managed to scrape by with on their children, gymnastic lessons was the one thing Harleen wanted and it’s the one thing she got. Her coach was sure that if Harleen continued on this path, that she could be a possible contender for a place on the Olympic team, possibly by her early teens. Harleen loved the thought of competing at such a high level, on the biggest sporting event in the world. She’d certainly make a name for her self if that happened. It seemed everything was on course for the young girl.
However, everything changed when Harleen’s father was arrested. None of the family really knew that he did and no no idea the extent of his crimes. They discovered that he conned rich women out of their money and subsequently squandered it on himself. It certainly made sense why he would disappear for days at a time. She knew better than to ask her mother where her dad had gone off to. Her brother had made that mistake years before. Harleen couldn’t understand why her father would do such a thing. To cheat on his wife and steal money, only to spend it on himself. It was clear the family was poor, if he was going to steal, he could have at least benefited the family from it. Then it wouldn’t have been that bad. Her desire to know why her father would do such a thing became almost like an obsession. When she discovered the field of psychology and psychiatry, Harleen instantly decided that that’s what she wanted to do with her life. If only to help understand why her father did what he had done.
Harleen did excellent in high school. She got offers from a lot of colleges from all over the country. There was only one problem. Money. The family were far too poor to afford any of the incredible colleges that would love a student like Harleen after the grades she got. It was then that they found out about scholarships. Since she had been extremely active and successful on her high school gymnastics squad, there was the chance that she could attend university on a gymnastics scholarship. This opened up the world to her and after much deliberation, she finally decided on Gotham University.
Studying, all the way from pre-med to the end of medical school was easy for Harleen, if almost too easy. She found a lot of it dull, mainly because it was too easy. At the end of her studies, it was time for her thesis. After composing a questionable subject on the similarities between love and being a criminal, Harleen’s boyfriend at the time was tricked into thinking she had committed several crimes, including murder. To protect her, he shot the professor who she said she had killed earlier. Unable to live with the guilt, he asked Harleen to kill him, since he wasn’t sure if he could bring himself to commit suicide. The gun went off and when police investigated, with Harleen’s witness testimony, it was declared a suicide. It didn’t take long for her thesis to be acceptable and with that she was ready to begin a residency.
With so many choices of where to begin her residency, Harleen has decided to look over the country to find the most suitable institution for her to carry out her residency. She also wants to study different crimes in different areas. Arkham Asylum in Gotham is a prime candidate, but the stuck up doctors there are off-putting for her. There’s three other places she wants to check out before making a decision. One in Starling City, one in Central City and one in Bludhaven. One she begins her residency then her goal of becoming rich and successful will be even closer.
