Overview: Richard Grayson can be impulsive, arrogant, and even angry. But, he is a compassionate being who would do anything for his friends to make sure that they do not get hurt. This was one reason he protected his friends when they could have been killed. He is a kind person who puts others before himself, having sacrificed his own happiness on more than one occasion to make sure that he does not let them get hurt. This also shows a selfless side to him, as he always puts them before himself. He's even risked revealing his identity to make sure that they do not die or get severely hurt, showing his recklessness but also his kindness and compassion.
Despite the fact he's compassionate, Richard can be quite ruthless at times, having nearly beaten some particularly bad villains to near death in a blind rage. This rage has subsided from the extent it used to be at, but he still feels it at times. It is also a righteous anger that he demonstrates, as it is mostly directed to those who have committed atrocities. His arrogance has been shown as he's been condescending at times, and the fact he's refused to believe he was wrong on a few occasions, also demonstrating a sense of stubbornness. However, he knows when to stop being as stubborn and when to apologize.
His impulsiveness has been shown in his decision to buy an expensive car or move to Starling, which was also a way to find himself. The fact he's trying to find out who he is without Bruce shows that he is a confused individual trying to establish his identity. He's somewhat of a romantic, falling hard for girls at times and being devastated when the relationships end. He's shown a strong sense of morality, never once stooping to the level of criminals.
Other Equipment:
- Nightwing Suit: Despite the fact he's refused to take up the suit and is trying to live a normal life, Richard has kept the costume that he designed, and had help creating, for his new identity. It is a black Nomex fire-resistant, triple-weave Kevlar-lined bodysuit that showcases his muscles, as well as being protective. While not having a cape for stealth, it is a dark suit that uses light sensitive materials to dark when there is more light. Across his shoulders, and extending to his hands, is a blue wing that darkens with the black materials. While he does not wear a cowl, he wears a domino-mask that cover his eyes and occasionally wears a hooded jacket made of the same materials to protect his identity further.
- Utility Belt: As his hero identity, Richard would use a utility belt filled with gadgets. These gadgets include stylized throwing discs, gas and smoke pellets, emp's (Two of them), miniature camera, two way radio and mini first aid kit
- Eskrima Sticks:As he favours the Eskrima form of combat, as well as Aikido, Richard uses Eskrima sticks in combat as his primary weapons. They are capable of joining together into a single bo-staff, and are made from a black virtually unbreakable polymer.
History
Born to a family known as "The Flying Grayson's", Richard was raised by his parents to be a member of their act. They were a travelling circus, but Richard would grow up a normal boy with an aptitude for acrobatics. He got along with every member of the circus, seeing them as extended family. His parents were loving, and his mother would call him her little 'Robin', because he was born on the first day of spring and she had always loved the bird Robin. His parents, from the age of five, began to train him in the basics of acrobatics, making sure that he'd be ready to perform with them as he got older. It took him a while, a few months actually, but he eventually began to excel at acrobatics.
By the time he was ten years old, Richard was already a skilled acrobat, and could perform a triple somersault with ease, being close to mastering the quadruple somersault. His parents were proud of his progress, and he'd shown himself to be a capable trapeze artist. Another three years passed, and tragedy struck the family: His parents were killed in an accident that Dick was only saved from due to the fact he had been ill and unable to perform. Placed into an orphanage, he was destined to be left to the system... When Bruce Wayne, billionaire playboy, adopted him as his ward. At this point in his life, Dick had perfected the quadruple somersault, being able to perform the maneuver with only some difficulty. For two months, he wondered where his guardian disappeared to almost every night. One night, curiosity got better of the boy and he discovered Bruce's secret: He was a crime fighter, a myth, named Batman. Because of this, and because Richard had shown the same rage Bruce had, he was brought on as his sidekick, Robin: Taken from his mothers favourite bird.
For five and a half years, Richard was trained to be a good Robin, demonstrating his skills on more than one occasion. His acrobatic's training had made him a natural athlete, and he'd shown himself to be an even more prodigious acrobat with this intense training. He received the finest education, eventually being accepted into Gotham City University and showing he had a high intellect, though he was no snob or bona-fide genius. His skills in combat increased, and he was considered an excellent crime-fighter as Robin at eighteen. But, he was shot in the shoulder during a mission, and Batman ended his career. Angry, Richard left the life for a year, though he was only semi-retired and even designed and created a new costume himself, with some help here and there. He discovered his parents had left him a trust fund years ago, and it had been carefully guarded: In fact, it had been turned into a small fortune. Deciding that, at nineteen he wanted to find himself, he left Gotham and moved to Starling City. Transferring to Starling University, he bought himself a loft apartment and has even got a name in the media: the ward, and adopted son, of Bruce Wayne is somewhat well known, but he continues to hide his former crime fighting career. However,he has still brought his equipment, costume and even his old Eskrima sticks. He's still trying to find himself, but is beginning to feel as if he may not get out of Bruce's shadow.
