Like other Russians, Anatoli’s emotions are kept for his friends, not for the rest of the world to share in.

History
Born into the Siberian in December was no easy birth, and one that Anatoli very easily could have died from. Rather than dying, the young boy survived and thrived against the harsh weather. In those days, no one had money, and those that did, didn’t share. Life wasn’t easy, Anatoli was raised by his parents, alongside three other siblings; two brothers and a sister. Anatoli was one of the middle children, there was nothing special about him. He can remember many times going without food, practically freezing to death. At most, he had two outfits of clothing, just like any other Russian citizen during those times. Unlike other citizens though, Anatoli was born into Bratva, the Russian Mafia, run by his uncle.
When Anatoli was 20 he was conscripted into the KGB, the Soviet Union’s elite military power. As a young man, Anatoli was trained to kill, and he was good at it. Through the KGB he learned a number of martial arts forms, turning him into an powerful enemy with only the use of his hands. Beyond the hand-to-hand combat, Anatoli was trained to shoot, a sport he excelled in. An expert marksman with every weapon known to the Soviet Union at the time, Anatoli was given one more set of skills: explosives. He could arm or disarm any explosive within the Soviet Union, and many explosives made by other countries as well. Among his less than lethal skills, Anatoli learned effective interrogation skills, and while they were non-lethal, they were hardly painless.
By the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, Anatoli was one of their top officers, a mere 27 years old. Known to the CIA as ‘KGBeast’, Anatoli’s identity was anything but secret. For 7 years his life was devoted to the Soviet Union and the goal of keeping the communist party in power, by any means necessary. Suddenly, the KGB lost much of their power, though they were hardly extinct. Turning his skills to another powerful organization, Anatoli became a Bratva Captain. Holding power in at least fifty countries, Bratva is feared even by the Yakuza in Japan and Cosa Nostra in Sicily. At 41 Anatoli took on the rank of Pakhan, the leader of the Bratva, succeeding his uncle. Suddenly Anatoli was considered by many to be the most powerful man in Russia, above even the President. If Anatoli so wished, he could have the President taken out of power, and replaced with someone of his choosing by bribing, extorting and blackmailing the political figures surrounding him.
In 2010 the CIA suddenly lost track of Anatoli, as though he disappeared off the face of the planet. Assumed dead, they stopped searching for him, though kept his file open as no body was ever found to confirm the theory. Anatoli had met with a man, Anthony Ivo, on Russia’s coast. Ivo spoke of a miracle solution that would turn any man into an unbeatable warrior, a solution they could use to create an army. Looking out for the future of his Bratva family, Anatoli met with Ivo. As Anatoli arrived, he and his men were met by Ivo and his small army, outnumbering Anatoli. Seeing his defeat, Anatoli willingly boarded Ivo’s ship, finding himself a prisoner among many others. Seeking out the strongest men he could find, Ivo had plans to use Anatoli as a test subject, just like the others.
His first memory of the ship was being shot, only to be given a medical kit to patch himself up. Anatoli survived through the pain, though not all the others were so strong. After a few months, Anatoli lost track of the days on the ship. He once had tried to speak up, though gave up on that notion quickly. His words were useless, he was caged and hardly in a position of power aboard this ship. Like those around him, Anatoli wondered where they were sailing to, if the miracle solution was even real, and just what the future would hold. Though Anatoli remained as stoic as ever, he did secretly ponder if he would ever make it off the ship.
A year into his captivity, he met an extraordinary young man, Oliver Queen. The boy had been captured, caged and shot just like all the others. Anatoli explained that the bullet was to see just how strong the boy was, if he was strong enough to live. They had many conversations to pass the time, the days, maybe even the months. Anatoli lost track of how long Oliver was on the ship, but it wasn’t very long. Oliver knew the woman that worked with Ivo, Sara, and was brought into a trap. Though he promised to return for Anatoli, Anatoli disregarded Oliver’s promise.
When Oliver finally returned to the ship, Anatoli was shocked to learn that it was part of an elaborate plan to free everyone. His life saved by Oliver, Oliver instantly gained Anatoli’s loyalty. Escaping to Lian Yu, Anatoli was the first to notice the absence of Oliver. When Slade called, demanding a trade of Oliver for Hendrick, Anatoli was all too willing to hand over the violent man that held a gun to his head. Tying up Hendrick, Anatoli disabled a German land mine, using it to turn Hendrick into a bomb for hand-off with Slade.
Meeting up with Slade, the Mirakuru allowed Slade to discover their plan, threatening to kill them all with the bomb. He let them go, instead punishing them to a lifetime on Lian Yu. Thanking Oliver for freeing him, Anatoli made Oliver a Captain in the Bratva, pledging his loyalty to the young man. They stayed as a group for a couple of months, though feeding an entire group was no easy task, even with their combined survival skills. Splitting was the only practical way to survive, and so Anatoli went off on his own, like many of the others. It would be another year before Anatoli found his way off the island. A year in which he experienced more horrors than even the Gulag could offer, horrors that Anatoli was certain had taken the lives of the others. Using a fallen tree from a storm, Anatoli managed to roll it out to the water, using it to stay afloat and drift off into the ocean. It was a suicide mission, but staying on the island offered no better chance of survival. Found by a boat days later and close to death, Anatoli found himself heading home to Russia.
Returning to Russia was easy, greeted by his family, Anatoli once more took his position as leader of the Bratva. The nightclubs his family owned brought in more money than Anatoli could spend, and worked as perfect locations to conduct their family business. It was no secret that the Bratva owned the clubs, though anyone looking for a good time had no concern over what went on behind the office doors.
With the news of Oliver Queen being found alive, and returned to Satrling City hitting international papers, Anatoli packed himself a bag, heading to America to see his old friend.
