Cassie checked the clock on her phone; she wasn't entirely sure what the digital readout said but the analog said 10:52. She shrugged and put her phone away, turning her attention back to watching the crowd. Late nights were the norm for Cassie when it came to bouncing. The job gave her the time to go to class and practice. Still, damn she could use some coffee.
The line was long tonight, even longer than usual for Venom. Imagine Dragons was scheduled to go on after Limbo tonight for a 'secret performance', which of course was leaked with an hour of the staff being informed. Cassie had to escort the fired waitress out herself.
Cassie leaned against the wall in such a way that she blocked the door, an ID in one hand and a sharpie in the other. She had an over/under bet going on with one of the roadies on how many teens would try to get in, so she was keeping tally on her forearm.

Thea had run out of her stash, and she needed more pills. How else was she supposed to get through school (on the days she actually went)? Alcohol was too hard to get in, and of course drunkenness showed too much. Why not just get buzzed? Thea had a bit of a restraint problem, and was going to get wasted if she even tried.
She was waiting in line now, wanting to get inside. She had a friend who came here and sold. Well, not a friend, a dealer. The dealer liked to think of them all as "friends" though, so that's how Thea kind of thought of it, sometimes. After all, she got a rather decent price, so why not consider him a friend?

Cassie let another person through, who was happy to go by. A pair of high school football players walked up, trying to get past her.
"Whoa whoa" she said as they tried to push past her. "ID. Now."
One of the players reached into his pocket. After a moment I of fishing, he placed a Benjamin in her hand. "Keep the change."
Cassie looked it over, noting that it was real before putting it into her pocket. "Thanks. Now, show me some ID or leave."
The other player laughed and stepped closer to her. "What are you gonna do to stop me from walking by." He and his buddy attempted to push past her. Cassie responded by sweeping the legs our from one and kneeing the other in the groin. Both hit the ground hard. "Leave." Both quickly left the line, causing the next person in line to stare. Cassie smiled and turned to her. "ID?"

Thea turned her head and saw the two people running. She paid them no real attention, because she was more caught up in sending a text out to her dealer inside. She wanted him to know she was coming and to save her some pills. She needed them, and was not going to be happy if he sold his entire supply before she got inside.
She moved forward with the line before putting her phone away.

Cassie let another person through as she marked down another two tallies on her arm. Bouncing was kind of a boring job some nights, but at least it wasn't a strenuous one most of the time. She took a glance down towards the end of the line, seeing that it wrapped around the block. "Of course" she sighed, before checking the next girl's ID.

Thea was next and had her fake in hand. With her money, this was a good fake, a really good fake. Probably the best she could get in Starling. There was no way she wasn't getting inside; it had never failed her before.

Cassie looked over to the girl, holding out her scanner. "ID please" she said, holding out her hand. She could swear she had seen this girl before, but she had to check anyway.

Thea held out her ID without a word. She crossed her arms and waited, just wanting to get inside and get her fix.

At a glance the ID was normal as can be, but she had to scan it anyway. She did, and was about to hand it over when her scanner beeped, declaring it wasn't valid. "One sec" Cassie said "This thing glitches occasionally." It really didn't do it that often, but she wanted to get another look at the ID.

"I'm in a hurry," Thea told her. She wasn't too worried at first, but then again, she'd never really seen a scanner thing like that. She figured a fake of her quality should hold up, but she couldn't be certain about that. It had damn well better hold up, though. She could get another one, but she felt like this was going to be a cheat if it failed, and that she was cheated on her ID.

Cassie quietly eyeballed the ID, examining it closely. The text on it was useless to her (she relied on a scanner for a reason). She inserted it into the scanner again, with the readout approving it. Cassie looked at the owner of the ID for a moment, trying to size her up. She had noticed something interesting about the ID. "Was this ID acquired here in Starling?"

She gave Cassandra a look, "Of course it was, where else would it come from?" she questioned. She knew it was based on the licenses and ID's from Starling, otherwise it might have been a semi-useless ID in Starling, and well, that's where she lived. She wanted it to work in Starling.

"OK then" Cassie said, not stating why she asked. "Sorry about the trouble miss Dearden" she said, handing her back the ID. She knew it was phony, but it was a damn good fake, which made Cassie suspicious.

She just gave a nod and headed inside. She shoved her ID back into her purse and hurried to try to find where her dealer was. He had texted her his rough location, but as she got there, he wasn't. Great, he'd moved in the meantime. Now where? She sent out a text and waited.

Cassie called one of her fellow bouncers over to her. "Hey Gabe, mind switching posts?" Cassie asked. "They aren't taking me all that seriously at the door." Gabe nodded, and he took her place at the door. She took his position inside, moving along the flood so she could keep an eye out for the girl.
