[Pre-Oliver mini-season finale time]
Moira sat alone in the dining room, stabbing her fork non-nonchalantly into a piece of fine pork and taking a sip of freshly brewed tea, exported straight from Japan, in-between bites. It was Easter in Starling, but Moira didn't quite feel up for a large get-together this year. In fact, the Queen family hasn't hosted any sort of parties for five years..
Easter was about being together with your family, but Moira felt she no longer had one. She had Thea, but at the same time she didn't. She wished with all heart that Thea would be safe tonight and wouldn't end up dead on some street corner..
She shook her head of such thoughts. She had already lost one child, she would not lose another. Even if she had to journey to Hell itself and rip Thea away from the Devil's fiery clutches, she would get her baby back.

Thea made her way into the dining room and leaned against the door frame, "Is there enough of that for me too?" she asked. Her mother probably figured she'd left, but she hadn't. She wasn't very spiritual, but it did pain her to see her mother like this, so she wanted to be there on a holiday. Yeah, she should do it more, be there every day, but this was a special occasion, so that explained it today.

She looked up and smiled, genuinely "Oh Thea, I didn't think you were home. Of course, of course. Pull up a chair. I already send the waiter home for the day so i'm afraid you'll have to fix your own plate."
This would be probably be the first meal in a long while she would actually sure with her daughter. The day wasn't for naught after all.

Thea nodded and went to get some of the meal for herself. She returned in a few moments and took a chair near Moira and sat down. She didn't say anything and started to eat a little of it, "It's good," she said. A little awkward, but it was all she could think to say. Why was this awkward? Was it because of the holiday?

Moira smiled, "Fernado does make the most exquisite meal. You could stand to learn a thing or two from him. I wouldn't mind learning to cook more than toast myself."
She let out a little amused chuckle before taking another sip of red wine. 1926, a very good vintage indeed.
So far so good, the little family dinner hadn't gone to complete hell just yet. Maybe if Moira was lucky she could keep it that way.

"But if I learned to cook, then what would my husband do?" she asked in a half joking tone as she took another forkful. She looked at the wine and then stood up so she could reach the bottle. She was going to pour herself some, regardless of what her mother said.

Moira frowned, not at her underaged daughter drinking in front of her, but at the husband comment.
"It would sadden me to see you leave the nest and strike out on your own, but you are almost a young woman now, Thea, maybe it was time you put all this foolishness behind you and started seriously thinking about your future."

She didn't respond to that, at least not right away. She ate a little of her food and then set her fork down, "I'm still young. I'll figure it out as I go. It's not time for me to think about that yet." And she hadn't. At all.

Moira shook her head, "You must have at least have something in mind? Do you at least plan to go to college? Your father was an alumni of Starling City University and a major benefactor for many years. They would gladly accept you with open arms."
It was too late now, but perhaps she shouldn't have mentioned Robert in front of Thea. The poor girl was so much weaker than herself.. She was fragile like the little china dolls Robert used to buy her as presents.

"I don't know," she told her mother. She took a drink of the wine and set her glass back down, "I could go. I just don't know what I'd do there. That's the problem I'm facing right now." That was true. She wouldn't mind going to college, but a major? She had nothing.

"It's not just about the education, that's important yes, but meeting new people and making connections is also essential. Who knows, your path may just present itself to you after a time. You just have to put yourself out there first," said Moira, "But of course, even if you don't decide to go, i'd be happy to support whatever you decide to do with your life."
Besides being a drug dealer or whore, she kept to herself.

She looked at her mother, "And by connections, do you mean new people, or do you mean professional or business things?" It was hard to tell where her mother was going with this, into the realm of the personal, or trying to push her towards a career path or something. Put herself out there? She figured she did enough of that with her partying.

"No reason they have to be mutually exclusive. Take Tommy's father, Malcolm Merlyn, for example. He's not only my loyal business partner, but a longstanding friend with both me and your father."
She wasn't sure why she throw Malcolm's name into the conversation. Deep in the dark crevices of her mind, Malcolm was always there, waiting. Grinning at her like a mad demon. The world did not know the real Malcolm Meryln. But then the world didn't know the real Moira Queen either...

She nodded, "But that would also make me need to know what I wanted to do with my future so I could even look for someone to be like a business associate with." As it stood she had no real path for her future. Maybe she could be part of the family business, or just sit there and get money from it. That's about all she had in mind.

Moira shrugged, "Just something to keep in mind," and went back to eating her meal. The room was filled with awkward silence after that. Moira and Thea didn't have much in common besides family and even then it was a touchy subject. Moira ate her meal at a somewhat fast pace. It may have a National holiday, but Moira still found herself buried with paperwork she had to go through, giving her stamp of approval when needed. Being the CEO of a fast growing multimillion dollar corporation wasn't always a walk in the park.
